Cervical Screening

Why Cervical Screening is so Important

Cervical screening is a free health test which helps prevent cervical cancer. All women and people with a cervix aged 25-64 are eligible for a cervical smear test, which can be performed by one of our nurses at the GP surgery. During this procedure a small sample of cells is taken from the cervix. The sample is checked for the virus Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause changes to the cells of your cervix. If you have HPV your sample will be checked for abnormal cells.

The test is done routinely every three years (age 25-49) or every five years (age 50-64). It is the best way to protect against cervical cancer.

If you have registered with us from another surgery you may have done the test elsewhere in the UK. Please let us know the date of your last test so that we can update our records.

If you have registered with us from another country, any tests done abroad are not recognised by the UK screening service. Please book an appointment for your test, or to speak to the nurse if you have any questions.

Child Immunisations

It's important that vaccines are given on time for the best protection, but if you or your child missed a vaccine, contact your GP to catch up.

Clinics

We have a number of clinics at the surgery which are run by external professionals.  We have ante-natal, psychological therapy, and counselling clinics. Please enquire with reception should you wish to access any of these services.

The nursing team from the Alliance Group will be completing health checks for patients with schizophrenia, bipolar and psychosis on our behalf. Please call 02477 710981.

Our staff will look at the information you give us and refer patients to the Community Pharmacist Consultation Scheme. If referred, you will have a consultation with a local pharmacist (either face to face, by telephone, or virtual). The pharmacist can offer advice, make a referral to an NHS service, or refer back to the surgery.

If you are not sure what is best for you, please ask when booking your appointment.
